At Cochlear, hearing is our passion. Our mission is to help people hear and be heard. Around the world, more people choose a Cochlear-branded hearing implant system than any other.  As our portfolio of implantable hearing solutions grows we are producing more embedded software and as a result we have a new role for a Senior Firmware Engineer.

We Offer Challenging Work with Real Meaning

You will work within the Firmware and Signal Processing team deliver firmware for Cochlear’s product platforms in Assembly or C.  The code you write will drive the externally worn component (similar to a hearing aid) to process the incoming sound, interact with the user and communicate with the surgically implanted component. You will be part of a leading R&D team that collaborates globally to deliver a great product to our customers.

You will have a degree in Electronics or Computer Science Engineering or equivalent and you need to be able to write efficient and reliable code for this low-power embedded application (the uC code is written in C, but you’ll need to be able to understand and occasionally write assembly).   Our customers love the wireless accessories and so experience with low power wireless protocols like Bluetooth is highly valued.  Testing is a big part of what we do to produce high reliability firmware.  You will need to write and maintain unit and system tests, which are written in Python and run on a continuous integration server.   Of course, we also use version control and bug tracking.

Our products are complex multi-discipline systems. Working on them means you’ll be faced with challenging and important problems to solve. In order to deliver a great user experience to our customers, you will rely on recent experience to ensure you can successfully collaborate in a cross-functional setting where the most optimal design is a result of great teamwork.

We operate in a regulated industry which requires quality design documentation and so good written English skills are required.  You will also need a great commitment to lifelong learning and development.

What makes this role at Cochlear unique?

Our employees tell us that the number one reason they enjoy working for Cochlear is the opportunity to make a difference to people's lives. You will be:

  • Working for a company with a profound mission to help people with hearing loss.
  • Working cross-functionally with our software and system engineering development teams, hardware teams and external vendors.
  • Working in a supportive environment where you will be encouraged to grow and given opportunities to take on technical leadership responsibility over time.

Take the first step towards a career with Cochlear. A career you can be proud of.  Apply online today.
