Electrical Design Engineer

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Design & Development team at our global headquarters in Sydney. In this position you will be developing our next generation of products through electronic design, investigation, development, verification, safety analysis, writing and reviewing electrical product documentation.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Electronic design: Perform electrical design (analog and digital), and develop and test prototypes; Developing Firmware; Identify and investigate solutions to requirements and problems; Collaborating cross functionally to ensure design integrates with other functions (FW, mechanical, international teams etc); Following Cochlear’s design control process and regulatory requirements.
  • Electronic verification: Perform verification of electronic designs against requirements and functional specifications; Develop test jigs, automated systems, write and review verification protocols; document hazard analysis and FMEAs; Plan and organize EMC/ESD testing to the appropriate international standards & regulatory bodies.
  • Introduction into production: Assist with manufacturing process optimization and quality improvement; Solve difficult electrical issues raised by production; Liaise with suppliers and contractors.
  • Developing solutions: Proactively finding alternative solutions to electrical and production problems; Work with other groups to efficiently solve problems; Contribute to process improvements and quality improvement.

Key Requirements

  • Tertiary Qualifications - minimum Bachelor Degree in Electronic Engineering
  • Min 2 years post-qualification design & development experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • An understanding of electronic circuits and components, both analog and digital
  • Experience with development of embedded FW
  • Experience with electrical CAD tools - schematic capture, simulation and PCB layout
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry eg medical device, defense (desirable)
