About the Role

The Patient Account Collections Specialist II is responsible for providing exceptional service by acting with a sense of urgency to perform collection follow-up with patients regarding open accounts receivable and/or delinquent accounts while demonstrating a high degree of knowledge, integrity, and empathy in all aspects of team performance and operations. This position is located in Cochlear Americas head office based in Lone Tree, CO.

Primary responsibilities involve contacting patients to pursue account resolution, explaining and reviewing account activity with patients, extending payment options and collecting payments.  In this role, you will perform comprehensive reviews and follow-up activities that facilitate reimbursement of services rendered.

To be successful in this role, you will use your experience in accounts receivable and/or collections to review and manage the overall health and status of patient accounts. You will work collaboratively with Reimbursement Billing and other cross-functional teams to ensure the comprehensive follow-up and resolution of all open patient balances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively work on all open patient balances from reimbursement, self-pay accounts, and unreturned processor AR to pursue payment.
  • Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone and via email, processing patient payments and payment plans, generating and sending out invoices and statements.
  • Review and recommend/perform write off/adjustments of balances with management approval as appropriate.
  • Send notices for unreturned processors and transfer to recipient responsibility when needed.
  • Participate in the phone queue and mail out return labels/boxes as requested.
  • Manage service agreement contracts to include generating refunds and expired credit cards.
  • Responsible for being a subject matter expert (SME) on patient balances, credit holds and payment plan options.
  • Interact with third party collection agency as necessary by researching and responding to weekly inquiries.

Key Incumbent requirements: Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3+ years in medical billing / collections experience with knowledge of the medical collection processes
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, claims processing guidelines, and federal insurance regulations
  • Working knowledge of basic A/R principles, familiarity in working with health insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid and Explanations of Benefits (EOB’s)
  • Excellent computer skills (preferably in Microsoft Office) and experience utilizing common office resources (phone, fax, copier, and email)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ideal:

  • Strong background specifically in commercial or patient collections
  • Durable Medical Equipment (DME) background
  • Familiarity with Brightree and Oracle
