About this Opportunity

This exciting role allows you to lead and grow the technical expertise of verification and validation within Cochlear, champion V&V thinking, and define the verification and validation processes and coverage across Cochlear’s software systems, products and platforms. You will be helping define the V&V technical knowledge roadmap and introduce new technologies, innovation in verification and validation, growing Cochlear’s V&V engineering capability through mentoring and guiding other engineers to a high standard of knowledge and ability.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and voice of V&V activities for architecture, product and technology development

  • Champion “shift left” thinking to develop and involve verification and validation thinking and value add earlier in development
  • Work alongside the systems project management and engineering teams to champion systems thinking throughout Cochlear.
  • Contribute as a verification and validation lead to test coverage/architecture, actively driving areas for coverage improvement.
  • Contribute as a verification and validation lead to lower risk in high priority projects with emerging bottlenecks.
  • Provide expert guidance to key product developments. Actively contribute to the compilation and deployment of Cochlear's architecture, product and technology roadmaps.

Own, develop and maintain the verification and validation process

  • Own Cochlear’s Verification and Validation process and best practices.
  • Provide training, coaching and reference material to achieve and maintain a high level of knowledge and skills in all Verification and Validation engineers.
  • Ensure verification and validation processes are defined, documented and followed by the team.
  • Review, identify and recommend significant improvements to verification and validation processes and methodologies.

Build relationships and manage stakeholders

  • Cooperate with and ensure alignment with other development and IT groups across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain an active and effective network of contacts - technical and non-technical - within and beyond Cochlear.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders to ensure expectations are managed (for example department managers, Product Managers, S/VPs, Regional Personnel, and Customers).

About You


  • Engineering/Science degree (Software, Computer Science, Electrical,  Mechanical, , Biomedical or Systems engineering preferred)
  • Strong understanding of verification and validation principles, methods and tools that are appropriate for the development of medical devices
  • Over 8 years’ experience in engineering design and verification, preferably with firmware controlled electro-mechanical products


  • Understanding of technical architecture and application of Cochlear products and IT systems
  • Excellent influencing and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to facilitate cross-functional teams to make decisions.
  • Experience working in Agile product development.
