About Us

Imagine using your experience to help people around the world to hear again. We can offer a unique opportunity to join Cochlear, an iconic Australian company, leading the world in implantable hearing solutions. Our mission is to help more people to hear.

The Opportunity

Are you interested in Agile practices, Software Delivery, and helping make a difference in people’s lives? Cochlear is seeking someone who can implement, drive, and coach Agile practice and ways of working, and align on Software Delivery processes, in our global and fast-paced team. You will play a key role in ensuring our global software team produces consistent, sustained, and regular delivery of high-quality applications within the R&D Software product portfolio. You will build, own, and drive a metrics framework across all our squads in the department, to enable us to identify, manage, and escalate issues during the software development process. This is a great opportunity to influence the operational excellence of our software delivery organisation, to coach and align a global team, and to get exposure to the Leadership Team.

Your responsibilities will include:

Software Delivery Metrics

  • Own and implement industry standard software development metrics, like DORA and Flow Metrics, guided by an understanding brought to the role of what good looks like in the industry. Implement these metrics across all projects within the Customer Software department, to identify, manage, and escalate bottlenecks, risks and issues.
  • Drive acceptance and adoption of these standardised metrics across each squad, working closely with the respective Software Delivery Manager and Product Owner, to train them up and build their self-sufficiency going forward, and coach them on how to improve their results.
  • Proactively monitor and analyse the data coming from the metrics to foresee risks, bottlenecks, and potential delays before they happen, and report and escalate as appropriate.
  • Provide visibility on the Software Delivery process to the Customer Software Leadership Team, using reporting and visualisation tools such as Tableau, to help product and resource decision making in the management of the department.
  • Assist with resource forecasting and advising resource managers on gaps and opportunities within the teams, based on bottlenecks discovered through the metrics.

Agile Coach / Software Delivery Process

  • Champion and drive the adoption of Agile practices in the squads, and enforce project standards, so that the Customer Software department continues to stay at the forefront of employing industry best practices.
  • Work with the respective Software Delivery Manager and Product Owner on each squad to standardise our Agile ways of working and squad model, and tool usage such as Jira, so that we globally align on consistent ways of working.
  • Provide insights to the Customer Software Leadership Team on further opportunities of improvement with the software delivery process, both within the Customer Software team, and with other delivery teams across the business, so that we can further optimise Cochlear’s overall product delivery.

Team and Thought Leadership

  • Perform the role of Agile Coach for the team, including associated training, with a focus on continuous improvement and driving the teams to work better.
  • Manage the release process and deliverables so that the Connected Care product roadmap is fully supported.
  • Maintain expert knowledge in software engineering the application of software for medical devices and medical device data systems. Disseminate this knowledge for the benefit and growth of the department and peers.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of relevant education and experience
  • Senior level experience working within an agile environment, ideally in a large and complex business
  • Prior experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach
  • Strong experience in change management for teams and processes
  • Development and delivery of customer facing digital products using Agile Scrum methodology
  • Knowledge of and exposure to application and cloud software development
  • 3+ years’ experience in software teams; either in project management, delivery management, or team management
  • Experience using Tableau or other reporting visualization tools.
  • Strong understanding of product design principals is ideal, but not essential
  • Experience working on projects in a regulated environment is ideal, but not essential

Developmental value of this role:

This is a fantastic role where you will be aware of new and emerging technologies and be involved in the application of innovative products that solve real-world problems. You will have the opportunity to evolve and grow your skills in delivery management, agile process management, and operations management. You will be able to develop your leadership skills, building your network with stakeholders from various departments and evolve your product design skills.
