The Opportunity

Cochlear has an exciting opportunity for a Director IT Enterprise Architecture (Business Portfolio) to join our head office team in Macquarie (Sydney) to lead strategic initiatives and projects and provide architectural leadership with associated architecture resources. This role is suitable for someone who has experience with business product design and development.

Your responsibilities will include…

  • Lead the effective provisioning of the Architecture services, in support of Business planning, IT Strategy development and Project delivery with the business portfolio including strategy development, decision support, solution design and architecture advisory.
  • Review existing architecture designs within the relevant business domain and make recommendations for alignment and remediation where appropriate.
  • Lead the solution architecture through all phases of the Global delivery lifecycle.
  • Work closely with project managers and delivery leads to ensure scope, resourcing and risks are clear and understood by all stakeholders.
  • Produce solution architecture documentation aligned to stakeholder requirements within agreed timeframes.
  • Review component designs produced by solution architects, domain architects, vendors or other IT stakeholders and ensure alignment to the solution architecture.
  • Review Information Technology projects within the business domain to ensure compliance with Architecture standards and principles.

About You


  • Degree in Information Technology, Systems Analysis or a related study
  • Sound experience as an enterprise architect or solution architecture
  • TOGAF or similar Certification
  • Customer-focused, results-oriented with a passion for excellence and strong business acumen
  • Proven delivery capability in planning and execution of activities
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, researching, evaluating, and recommending new and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.
  • Strong leadership capability and a team player with effective people management skills


  • Post-graduate qualification
  • Previous experience in an agile deliver environment
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., medical devices)
  • Previous experience in large scale organisations and transformation projects
