We are currently looking for a Data Engineer on a permanent full-time basis based in our global headquarters in Macquarie University.

The purpose of the role is to work with customers in various business functions globally to identify business opportunities and turn data into critical information and insights that can be used to make data-driven decisions.  The role provides customers with high quality data that is easily accessible.

The Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of data solutions and pipelines that are robust, secure, and scalable, enabling Cochlear to leverage data to take it to the next level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, document, deploy and maintain high quality Data Analytics solutions
  • Develop data pipelines and solutions using appropriate tools to address business needs
  • Develop frameworks that will enable the operationalisation of processes that leverage advanced analytics
  • Explore and interrogate of new sources of data to improve business insights and outcomes
  • Progress and transition successful prototypes into Production solutions
  • Work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across Cochlear to clearly identify opportunities and challenges that can be addressed with Data Analytics solutions
  • Partner with the team along with Delivery Managers and Analysts to produce high quality deliverables in a timely manner
  • Participate in the design of the optimal combination of data sources and analytical techniques for each problem
  • Comply with global development requirements and create technical documentation
  • Improve data quality by fostering a data aware culture and improving processes and governance

Key Requirements:


  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in building and implementing Data Analytics solutions in MPP data platforms such as Snowflake, Teradata, Redshift, and relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server) using tools such as Python, Spark and SQL
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience with data warehousing and building data pipelines with ELT/ETL tools such as Informatica and Talend
  • Strong business analysis and problem solving skills, high level & detailed solution design and implementation
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence and ability to interact with users at all levels
  • Demonstrated project discipline and experience. Organised, focused and driven toward established deliverable dates
  • Good understanding of data structures, data modeling and database schema
  • Keen attention to detail and complex problem solving abilities from an operational and technical perspective
  • Strong knowledge of SQL or PL/SQL
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent
  • Adaptability to learn new technologies, tools and ways of doing things


  • Knowledge of Data lake and datawarehouse concepts and design methodology
  • Experience in Oracle BI Apps and Informatica Powercenter
  • Experience in designing and developing dashboards using Tableau, Power BI and/or OBIEE to visualise data
  • Has been a member of an agile CI/CD squad within a DevOps practice
  • Ability to code and interpret complex algorithms
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and tools and patterns
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, researching, evaluating and recommending new and emerging technologies
