Cochlear is an iconic Australian company, backed by over 40 years of innovation and class leading technology development in implantable hearing solutions. Operating with a global remit, we are seeking a passionate, experienced Digital Design System Specialist to join our growing Sydney-based team.

About the role

The key function of this role is to develop, maintain and scale our online Digital Design System. You will work collaboratively with digital designers and developers across the globe to shape and adopt a “One Company” language and approach for delivering consistent omni-channel experiences that are customer focused.

Critical to your success will be your ability to articulate the vision we have for our design system and to influence its uptake by product teams around the globe.

You will play a key role in shaping our end-customer experience by executing on the following:

  • Evolve Cochlear’s Digital Design System from foundational elements to component libraries
  • Collaborate with mobile app designers/developers, product owners and Brand to develop standards and consistency  between native and web app patterns
  • Develop your expertise in applying international medical regulatory standards for usability and accessibility to design patterns and components
  • Work closely with developers and tech leads to translate UI designs into functional components
  • Work with other UX designers to identify new patterns and ensure they are validated against customer needs
  • Provide guidance and support to external vendors authorised to access the Digital Design System in order to design and develop Cochlear products
  • Contribute ideas on systems and process methods to improve deliverables

About You

  • Tertiary qualified with UX related degree or certificate
  • Significant UX knowledge with recent experience of design system creation or management
  • Robust design library creation and governance skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a sound understanding of best practice
  • Exceptional stakeholder management with proven track record of cross functional collaboration
  • Experience designing and conducting moderated and unmoderated usability testing
  • Experience with Figma software or similar; familiarity with JIRA and Confluence
  • Visual and/or UI design expertise
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with UX project management skills
  • Experience designing for WCAG
