The Opportunity

As a Senior Product Lifecyle Engineer you will be responsible for the investigation, design, verification, change management and project management associated with sustaining Cochlear’s product portfolio and interoperable third-party products.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Research and Development team and take the responsibility for managing the 1000+ Cochlear products in the market. This is a fast-paced sustaining engineering role acting to meet the business needs across Manufacturing, Logistics, Regulatory, Marketing and R&D.

Your responsibilities will include…

  • Identify and manage stakeholders at all levels and across all divisions of Cochlear (including key customers, suppliers and partners)
  • Manage the complete product design lifecycle (concept generation, evaluation, preliminary characterization to critical detailed design and implementation)
  • Deliver discrete PLE projects, within time, budget and scope
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) investigation of production and field data
  • Create and update design documentation such as requirements specification and tolerance analyses
  • Develop and conduct verification and validation testing in accordance with test plans and protocols

About You:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or other suitable science degree
  • Strong understanding of design and quality control principles
  • Experience as a professional engineer in a similar role
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to influence and manage key stakeholders
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and solve complex problems


  • 2D and 3D CAD skills (Pro/E Creo) highly regarded
  • Statistical analysis experience
  • Medical device or other safety critical industry experience
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of medical regulations and standards e.g., MDR, IEC 60601-1, ISO 14708-7, EN 45502-2-3 etc.

  • Opportunity to learn and practice Cochlear’s product lifecycle development process.
  • Ability to project engineer a design and/or process problem from definition, root cause analysis, design FMEA, verification to change management.
  • Ability to make continuous product improvement that impacts recipient’s experience of the external device and improve cost of their ownership.
  • Ability to learn and practice various techniques of problem solving.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, responsible for coordinating team level contribution to a project and management of team performance.
