Assistant Accountant

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and entry of Cash Management and Intercompany as well as the preparation of select consolidated reports. The role requires someone with experience in dealing with high volumes of transactions whilst managing multiple internal stakeholders both locally and internationally.

The Opportunity

Cochlear has a new opportunity for an Assistant Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for the timely completion of cash management, intercompany, month end accounting and reporting tasks as well as assisting the Group Account and Reporting Director when necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following relevant quality procedures to deliver quality products and services.
  • Continuous improvement and streamlining of processes to promote improved control and reporting efficiency.
  • Daily bank reconciliation via Oracle.
  • Monthly reconciliation to the general ledger with timely resolution of issues when required.
  • Preparation of inter-company invoices as per Group’s Intercompany Recharge Policy.
  • Reconciliation of stock transfer and invoicing between manufacturing sites.
  • Preparation and distribution of quarterly intercompany interest calculations.
  • Reconciliation of inter-company accounts between Australian and foreign entities on a timely basis.
  • Management and reconciliation of sundry debtors and raising of manual invoices.
  • Assisting the Group Account and Reporting Director.

In this role, the Assistant Accountant will have the opportunity to improve their understanding of financial accounting through gaining exposure and working within a publicly listed company. The successful candidate will also gain experience with internal and external auditors. 

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience: 

Essential 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.
  • Qualification or working towards CPA, CA or any other equivalent.
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience in a large organisation.
  • Experience with large ERP systems (e.g. Oracle).
  • Experience in month end process and monthly reconciliations.

 

Ideal 

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in working with numerous stakeholders concurrently.
  • Experience in accounting for transactions denominated in a foreign currency.

 

Organisational skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Proven attention to detail and demonstrated analytical/problem solving skill.
