About Us

Our R&D Department is currently looking for a Digital Signal Processing Engineer to join our DSP team based in our Sydney office. We welcome someone experienced or a recent university graduate who has the learning mindset to see challenging work as a vehicle for greater understanding and self-development. You will join a global team of skilled and very passionate digital signal processing engineers. We work on bringing our innovative algorithms into our next generation of sound processors, to enable our customers to hear better in all life situations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the architectural design of signal processing platforms/modules for our product range covering cochlear implant and acoustic based products.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Cochlear's architecture, product and technology roadmaps and associated activities.
  • Actively drive projects and contribute to process improvements to ensure that the DSP team works with world-class excellence.
  • Contribute to the creation, tuning and evaluation of new speech and sound processing algorithms
  • Implement reference signal processing algorithms in Python, Matlab and/or Simulink.
  • Implement real-time audio signal processing algorithms on a multi-core DSP platform using a mix of C/assembler.
  • Documentation and maintenance of DSP specifications and requirements.
  • Develop PC drivers for controlling audio processing algorithms using Python or C#.
  • Work closely with product owners & stakeholders to plan and execute end to end delivery of assigned initiatives.

About You:

  • University degree in electronics engineering, computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience as a digital signal processing engineer within audio, speech or other related signal processing areas.
  • Knowledge of common digital signal processing techniques including,
    • Transforms including FFT and DCT
    • IIR/FIR filtering and adaptive filtering techniques
  • Understanding of DSP and/or micro-processor architectures.
  • Has previously modelled algorithms in language like Python, Matlab and/or Simulink.
  • Skilled with cross-functional thinking and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in managing multiple complex projects

Ideally you would have:

  • Demonstrated research experience within audio processing targeting the human auditory system.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow or others.
  • Understanding of fixed and adaptive directionality techniques.
  • Experience in implementing signal processing algorithms on fixed-point DSP targets using C and/or assembly languages.
  • Familiarity with programming in Python using packages like SciPy, NumPy & Matplotlib.
